When the pen is mightier than the sword -- special postcarding party for Prop 50
Prop 50 is a sttewide constitutional amendment on the Nov. 4, 2025 special ballot concerning congressional redistricting. A “yes” to Prop 50 would temporarily replace the current Citizens Redistricting Commission’s congressional maps with new, legislature-drawn maps for elections through 2030, after which the independent commission would resume its role; counties would incur one-time administrative costs to update materials. A “no” would keep the current commission-drawn maps in place. Voters across the spectrum have strong views on fairness and representation, so learning the basics—and voting—is key. No thrones. No crowns. No kings. On October 18, millions of us are rising again to show the world: America has no kings, and the power belongs to the people. Find a No Kings event at https://www.nokings.org/#map.

Marc Salzberg

It is with deep sorrow that I share that our beloved Club member, past president, organizer extraordinaire, political activist, environmentalist, great friend and mentor to many, MARC SALTZBERG, passed away on the afternoon of June 27.

Marc was ill with lung cancer and had surgery in December. He seemed to be recovering but had a turn for the worse and never recovered. He was very private, and few knew of his condition. There will be a memorial for him in the Marina in a couple of weeks.

Marc was a pillar of the West LA Democratic Club and a member and advisor to many other clubs and organizations, as well as former Vice President of the Venice Neighborhood Council. A tireless warrior for Democracy and an advocate for social justice, he was at the forefront of every major election, organizing phone-banks, voter registration, canvassing trips – traveling all over the country to knock on doors and get out the vote. I remember well those trips to Las Vegas on GOTV weekend! He was a super-activist in the environmental arena, and created the very successful WLADC Environment and Clean Energy Committee, bringing in issues, speakers, and resolutions for the Club to sign onto. In recent years, we all came to depend on his monthly Senate Competitive Seats Report, which essentially guided us in our financial donations.

He was generous, good-hearted and kind, and always there to lend a hand or offer a bit of advice. He taught by doing.

Our hearts and love go out to Nancy and their family.

May his memory be a blessing, and his spirit live on eternally.
